The Athens Area Cancer Auxiliary awarded Mercy Health Center with a $1000 grant to cover the cost of cessation drugs and products for the patients who are the working poor as part of smoking cessation classes are held quarterly at Mercy in conjunction with ARMC for Mercy patients. Mercy Health Center would like to take the opportunity to say thanks to St. Mary’s Hospital for allowing us to take “Mercy on the Road.” On April 18, we were able to take the St. Mary’s Health Express Bus to the J&J Flea Market. Kaiser Permanente announced in December 2008 that Mercy Health Center was awarded a $50,000 grant to hire their first full-time medical provider – a nurse practitioner. Georgia Health Foundation announced in November 2008 that Mercy Health Center was awarded a $25,000 grant to aid in hiring a nurse practitioner. The Georgia Health Foundation was created in 1985 through the conversion of the Georgia Medical Plan, Georgia’’s first nonprofit health maintenance organization, to an independent, private foundation.
